Homeschoolers Arts Adventure

Friday, May 5 - June 16 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Creating, Presenting, Responding, & Connecting 
Students explore the masters, nature, stories, and traditions in this weekly adventure! Participants will create drawings, paintings, fabric art, clay sculptures, and so much more!

Week 1 and 2:
Creative stitchery and weaving on burlap and simple  cardboard looms using various kinds of colorful and textured yarns , fabric ribbons and buttons. Different weaving and stitchery techniques will be explored.

Week 3:
Tie dye T- shirts.Purchase a shirt from us for $5.00 or bring your own new T shirt to tie dye. Different fun methods will be introduced.  Bright and bold colors! Results will amaze you! Please bring a plastic bag to take your shirt home in.

Week 4 and 5:
Learn about American artist Georgia O' Keeffe as we paint big seashells and flowers!  Focus on drawing and paint mixing . Tempera paint/ acrylic on canvas board. 

Week 6 & 7
Bugs and Insects
Learn about the parts of an insect and create a big beautiful relief drawing of an insect using white glue and colored pastels. Results are stunning!

Creativity abounds in this fun, exploratory class for your little ones. Caregivers and children create together using a variety of mediums such as paint, crayons, markers, and papercrafts. All in a safe and nurturing environment. Share the joy and excitement of art with a child, and bring home new creations each week to be treasured for a lifetime.

Am I required to sit in on my student's class or is it optional?

This age group ranges from youth who have been in a school setting to those who have not. Therefore, we provide the option for caregivers to stay both onsite and within the room for ages 3-5. Students do not need to be accompanied, but can if the family chooses. Families may wait outside in the waiting area once their child is comfortable. Instructors will work to meet the goals set in place by each family on an individual basis

June 5- July 24 (No Class: July 3) Instructor: Elyse Cote
A fun and exciting class where students will learn how to build and sculpt with various kinds of clay.  Projects will range from hand-building and decorating small pots, cups or dishes to sculpting fantasy creatures.  They will create things like unicorns, dragons, pegasi, griffins, angels, fairies, gnomes, and trolls.  Each week a different project is introduced and completed.

portfolio sketchbook.jpgPortfolio Preparation for High School/College Applicants Ages 14-17, 4-6pm

The portfolio development course is open to high school students who may be interested in pursuing studio art at the college or career level.  This course can also help students enrolled in an AP Studio class at the high school level, and who wish to sharpen their skills in drawing, painting, or 2-D design.  Instruction will be personalized to students’ needs and interests and may include topics on observational drawing, portraiture, painting techniques, and mixed media.  Students will develop ideas for portfolio concentrations, and create work that emphasizes concept, craft, and personal expression.  Students will also learn to document their work for a digital portfolio for college and scholarship submissions. Members: $160, Non-Members: $175, Trial $25  REGISTER HERE or call us at 860-276-1581 to register

Do you have a hands-on learner? One who loves to work with tools and master the art of throwing clay? Then sign them up to learn how to throw on the wheel with clay from one of our best instructors. Robert will open the door to our clay studio for students to create their own clay bowls, pots, and altered free forms. Learn the fundamentals of art while working with a different medium each week. Acrylics, watercolors, pencil, colored pencils, markers, pen & ink, collage, printmaking, clay, and recyclable materials in 3-D sculpture are some examples that will offer a great opportunity to work with your favorite mediums and also experiment with new, unfamiliar ones! Ages 8-12, 12:30-2:30pm start date TBD (CALL WITH INTEREST) Instructor: Ulla Budde
Ready to create heirloom articles for the family? This beginner introductory seven-week class is perfect to learn how to weave on one harness table looms. Weave a custom table runner or a personal scarf. Create works of art you’re proud to keep or to give as a gift.  Projects include small pillows and sewing weavings into animals and creatures. You’ll be inspired to create as you explore yarns, color theory, and weaving techniques. Materials fee $10.
