Class Descriptions
SoCCA's premiere studio offers a variety of options for participation. Select the class type, day of the week, and time slot that fits your schedule. All students are required to have a complete Emergency Contact form signed before or on the first day of class. Registration is required in advance.
Wednesdays 3:30-5:30 pm,
Instructor: Rachel MacNamara
This introductory course in wheel-throwing pottery is the perfect place to start and our instructors are top-notch! In this beginners course, you will explore:
- Hand building with clay
- How to use a slab roller
- Centering and pulling clay on the potter’s wheel
- Forming cylinders and bowls on the wheel and
- Glazing your finished works

Monday 9 am - 12 noon, with Robert Riggs
SoCCA's Beginner Wheel throwing explores centering and pulling clay on the potter's wheel making cylinders and bowls. The instructor will demonstrate hand-building, the use of the slab roller, and guide glazing and finishing your work. Sessions run for three hours a week for seven weeks.

Friday 10 am - 1 pm
Instructor: Elyse Cote
SoCCA's Handbuidling class also participants to explore and expand their knowledge of handbuilding with a variety of techniques, tips, and tricks to create treasures both large and small. The instructor will demonstrate the use of the slab roller and guide you with glazing and finishing your pieces. Sessions run for three hours a week for seven weeks.

Instructor: Justin Gerace
If you can center clay, pull a cylinder, and throw a bowl, but you were looking to advance your skills - this is a class for you. Refine your handles, learn how to make lidded jars, and teapots, and explore decorating techniques with slips and glazes. No matter how long you have been potting, there’s always room for improvement.

Must be able to work independently. Take advantage of our 2000 square-foot studio handbuilding or wheel throwing. SoCCA's cone six studio has three electric kilns, 12 wheels, (one with adjustable height and wheelchair accessibility), 30 inch Northstar slab roller with hand building area and a wide pallet of custom glazes.
Studio closed for major Holidays.
Once a week: Member: $140 + Clay or Non-Member: $160 + Clay
Twice a week: Member: $250 + Clay or Non-Member: $275 non-member + Clay
Particpants can choose from one of the following 3-hour blocks a week for seven weeks.
Tuesday 9 am–12noon or 12noon-3pm or 3pm-6pm or 6pm-9pm
Wednesday 9 am–12noon or 12noon-3pm
Saturday 9 am– 12noon or 3pm-6pm
Sunday 9 am– 12noon or 12noon-3pm
