This course explores the medium watercolor and its application. The purpose of this course is for students to get a better understanding of how to manipulate and control the medium to create representational artworks. November 5 - January 17 (No class 12/24, 12/31)This unique class gives veterans their own unique space to explore artistic interests in three different mediums—drawing, painting & collage. Susan will guide beginners and intermediates as they complete drawing exercises in both graphite and charcoal; learn how to create compositions and paint with acrylics; and finally, complete a mixed media collage from start to finish. Truly one of a kind experience. All materials included.

January 7 - February 18  If you enjoy the feel and color of textiles, this is a great class for you. Come and join Ulla in this introductory class to learn how to weave on one-harness and two-harness table looms. Weave a custom table runner or a personal scarf. Create works of art you’re proud to keep or to give as a gift. You’ll be inspired to create as you explore yarns, color theory, and weaving techniques.

January 14 - February 25 Bring pencil drawings to life! This beginner to intermediate-level class will show you how. Working primarily from subject matter that interests you, Cindy will teach you everything from basic compositional techniques to value. From contour lines and perspective to negative and positive space. January 14 - February 25 This introductory course provides opportunities to learn digital design and photo manipulation using the Adobe Photoshop platform. Participants will learn to use Photoshop tools and functions to create original works of art in a digital format. Instruction will include importing images from smartphones to enhance, creating high resolution images for printing, and using layers to add text or combine images. Participants will be required to bring PC or MAC laptop equipped with Adobe Photoshop (version CS6 or higher) Members: $160, Non-Members: $175, Material Fee: $0 REGISTER HERE: or call us at 860-276-1581

November 13 - January 15 (no Class 11/27,12/25, &1/1) Aiming to learn and develop new painting skills while working in Acrylics or Oils?  These sessions begin with demonstrations of painting with Acrylics or Oils followed by a discussion of each individual's basic art concept with pursuing their work. Discussions on design and composition begin the process with a variety of techniques students can apply to their paintings.  Participants are suggested to supply a visual or photograph of the projects they have in mind to launch new applications in the painting process. Ongoing  if you enjoy weaving and have participated in a weaving class at SoCCA, this is an opportunity for you to continue WITHOUT instruction. Participants are welcome to attend weekly open studio session bench time for a $10/weekly fee.  No instruction is given, and participants are responsible for setting up their loom with preparing the warp. Note, additional fees for warping with SoCCA materials.  Registration is required to reserve a seat - seating is limited.  Call us at 860-276-1581 to register

September 27 - November 8  Open the door and embrace the artistic possibilities of pastel painting. Join Susan as she skillfully guides you through learning multiple pastel techniques. October 25- December 13  This is the perfect class for anyone new to the arts or intimidated by painting. Considered the easiest medium to learn, oils are flexible, forgiving, and easy to manipulate. And oils are fun to work with because they have a beautiful sheen that’s unique to oil paint. Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate, come discover the basics of oil painting with Susan. Printmaking Techniques Into CollagePrintmaking Techniques Into Collage 1-3:00pm
Instructor: James Brunelle
September 13 - October 25  Discover endless possibilities and inspiration with James as he takes you on an artistic journey. Students explore printmaking methods with a variety of papers and printmaking techniques. You will learn traditional block-printing, monotype, and mono-printing techniques from demonstrations. Creating your own stunning prints is the first step to producing a series of prints. Then participants will use sketching exercises and multi-layered printing to develop mixed-media collage works.
